Wiihabilitaiton refers to the use of the Nintendo Wii as a rehabilitation tool. This video game is being used for physical therapy as a means of promoting physical activity through non-traditional methods. Through different games, a physical therapist is able to focus the patient’s care into the areas where there are deficits. These include but are not limited to: balance, endurance, range of motion, and overall strength. With no age limit, this tool can be used for patient’s recovering from a wide range of physical problems. The Wii is an interactive game where the patients mimic the moves that would be performed if they were engaging in the actual activity. Their moves are picked up by a sensor bar and emulated by the characters on the screen. The Wii Fit has a variety of games to help promote balance, coordination, flexibility, and strength through non-traditional sports emulation. |
